Meal Hosting FAQs

Do I provide the ingredients and supplies? How many people am I cooking for?

Yes, you provide the ingredients to cook a meal for 25 people + how ever many are in your party (if you'd like to stay and eat!). We only outsource meals for Alpha House West at this time.

What should I make? Do I need to worry about food allergies?

You can see meals cooked in the past at www.alphahouse-ihn.org/meal-hosting. There you can also find a list of residents and their food-allergies.

We ask that you cook/bring an entree with protein, a vegetable-based side, and a carb-based side, and dessert if you choose. This can come in many different forms -- we often have Jimmy Johns catering brought by volunteers, as well as or delicious home-cooked meals. As we have many young children living in the shelter, we do ask that you try to keep things simple and avoid mixed dishes like casseroles.

Do I cook my meal at home and bring it? Or do I cook it on-site?

Either! If you're cooking on-site, we may have you coordinate with our Hospitality Coordinator Kelly Weaver, as he is in charge of the kitchen. Otherwise, feel free to cook at home and bring the hot dishes!
