Volunteer
The doors to our shelter are able to remain open solely because of people like you. Interfaith Hospitality Network at Alpha House is a grass-roots organization in which each of us contributes what we can — and together, we are able to do so much! Over the course of a year, nearly 2,000 volunteers will walk through our doors and give their support to the families and children of Alpha House. . . . and we need your help too! Join us in this important work and become a part of the Alpha House family!
Most meals and volunteer activities are provided through a diverse network of Host and Support Congregations and Organizations. But there are many other important ways for individuals, families, and groups to make a difference by volunteering at Alpha House!
- Emergency Volunteers: Emergency Volunteers agree to be called if last minute volunteer needs arise. Volunteers on our emergency list provide a valuable service to Alpha House by filling in as they are able. They may be asked to provide a meal, or plan an activity for the children, or even sleep overnight at Alpha House to provide back up support. Joining our emergency volunteer list is a great way to stay connected to Alpha House throughout the year while making a relatively small commitment.
- Alpha Volunteers: Are active, all-purpose volunteers, with a set regular schedule. Alpha Volunteers might help with meal preparation, children's activities, or other projects depending on the shelter's changing needs and the volunteer's areas of interest.
- Project Volunteers: address a special area of need at Alpha House. Do you have specialized skills you would be willing to share with our families such as nursing, car maintenance, tutoring, gardening, carpentry or art education? Consider becoming a Project Volunteer!
- Work Day Volunteers: Help maintain the Alpha House building and grounds by participating in a work day. Work day tasks might include raking leaves, painting, minor repairs, gardening or organizing storage areas. Great for groups!
- Youth Group Volunteers: There are many creative ways for youth groups to learn about our community and raise awareness about homelessness while serving others. Contact the Volunteer Coordinator for more ideas about how your youth group can get involved!
